Students Available vs. Seed Company Hiring

Plant Breeding at NCSU

Information from 2001 survey of land grant universities and seed companies

Numbers in table body are total students; 31 seed companies have been summarized below; out of 88 seed companies total; 38 universities have been summarized below; out of 73 land grant universities total.

Notes:

B.S. degree: university training in plant sciences is common (plant breeding specialization usually occurs for graduate studies at the M.S. or Ph.D. levels).

Seed companies sometimes do not have plant breeders on staff, but make use of independent plant breeders (especially common in floricultural breeding).
