Cucurbit Breeding - Job Opportunities

There are many employment opportunities relating to the cucurbit breeding project:

Undergraduate students interested in working on the breeding project as an hourly employee should contact Todd Wehner. Jobs involve assisting researchers in the field, greenhouse, and laboratories. Work is full time in the summer, and 10 to 20 hours per week during the school year. Similar jobs are available for those who qualify for the work-study program.

Undergraduates interested in working on their own research as an intern should apply through the NC State internship program.

Those interested in graduate programs leading to the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees should contact the Graduate school for application forms. Candidates should also contact the Graduate Coordinator for Horticultural Science.

Career opportunities for students completing the M.S. degree include plant breeding technician, usually for a large project.

Career opportunities for students completing the Ph.D. degree include plant breeding project leader at seed companies working on cucumber or watermelon, such as Harris Moran, Hollar and Co., Novartis (Rogers), Sakata Seeds, Seminis Vegetables (Asgrow, Petoseed), Sunseeds, Willhite, and other seed companies. Research postions are available at land-grant universities, or USDA/ARS research centers.
