Photoshop: Example Session
- Acquire digital image
- (slide scanner, digital camera, PhotoCD)
- Duplicate, then open into Photoshop (work on duplicate)
- Crop, straighten, rotate
- (Select area with cropping tool; then IMAGE - CROP;
- then IMAGE - ROTATE CANVAS)
- Save
- (SAVE AS - PHOTOSHOP)
- makes high quality image that can be edited further
- Get image size and resolution
- (IMAGE - IMAGE SIZE)
- Large print: 7"x10" with 300 (or 600) dpi
- Small print: 5"x7" with 150 dpi
- Large web: 640 (or 320) x ? pixels with 72 dpi
- Small web: 224 (or 192) x ? pixels with 72 dpi
- Adjust image range
- (IMAGE - ADJUST - LEVELS)
- Adjust image color
- (IMAGE - ADJUST - COLOR BALANCE)
- Adjust image brightness
- (IMAGE - ADJUST - BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST)
- Adjust image hue
- (IMAGE - ADJUST - HUE/SATURATION)
- Add text
- (Use text tool to write in a second layer)
- Sharpen image
- (FILTER - SHARPEN - UNSHARP MASK)
- Flatten layers before saving as TIFF
- Save as TIFF for archiving
- (SAVE AS - TIFF - MACINTOSH - LZW COMPRESSION)
- Save a second file as JPEG for web use
- (SAVE AS - JPEG - MEDIUM - PROGRESSIVE)
- Store images
- (save on hard disk; burn onto a CD-R or DVD-R disk)
