Handout - Quips and Excerpts for Success

  1. Worry about the small things...the big things will take care of themselves.
  2. You miss 100% of the shots that you do not take.
  3. A turn in the road is not the end of the road...unless you fail to make the turn.
  4. Maintain a positive attitude: Years ago, a large American shoe company sent two sales reps out to different part of the Australian outback to see if they could drum up business among the aborigines. Later, the company received telegrams from both agents. The first said "No business here...natives don't wear shoes." The second said "Great opportunity here...natives don't wear shoes."
  5. If you go into battle, it's better to win the first time (General George S. Patton).
  6. If you keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what you are getting.
  7. If you are not happy with the stuff you have now, what makes you think you will be happier with more stuff?
  8. Avoid shortcuts; they take too much time in the long run.
  9. Learn from the mistakes of others; you will not live long enough to make them all yourself.
  10. There are two types of employees: those who do the work, and those who take the credit. Try to be in the first group; there is much less competition there (Indira Gandhi).
  11. Never let what you can not do interfere with what you can.
  12. The business executive who makes no mistakes usually does not make anything.
  13. People who wait for all conditions to be perfect before acting, never act.
  14. At a political dinner, the famous newspaper columnist, Ann Landers, was introduced to a rather pompous Senator. "So you are Ann Landers, say something funny." Without hesitation, Ann replied "So you are a politician, tell me a lie."
  15. In business as in life, your chances of being run over are doubled if you stay in the middle of the road.
