Bishop (CRY 002) - Breeder and vendor: Moran Seeds. Characteristics: open pollinated, longer petioles than 52-70 types; compact hearts with dark green color; petioles are capped more than typical 52-70 types; dark green color extends well into basal region. Resistance: tolerance to fusarium yellows. Similar: Tall Utah 52-70 R. Adaptation: California coastal valleys. 1982.

Calmario (NCX 151) - Breeder and vendor: Niagara Chemical Division, FMC. Parentage: Florida 683 x Utah 52-70R. Characteristics: productive, green type with heavy petiole and high pack out of medium large petioles. Resistance: tolerance to pink root. Similar: Florida 683. Adaptation: general. Amer. Clean Cut (H30) - Breeder and vendor: Joseph Harris Co. Characteristics: open pollinated, 125 days from transplanting, ships well with excellent quality, large heavy petioles of good length: relatively few side shoots. Similar: Utah 52-70. Adaptation: northern mucklands. 1975.

Comet (RS2027) - Breeder: D. Sousa. Vendor: Petoseed. Characteristics: Tall Utah type main season, western shipper type for summer and fall harvest, uniform maturity. Resistance: some tolerance to fusarium race 2. Similar: Florida 683. 1995.

Compak 2 - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Mountain View, California. Characteristics: deep, rich, green color; compact plant; good stem count; long petioles. Cornell 6 - Breeder: Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Parentage: Golden Self Blanching x Utah. Adaptation: Cornell 19 cultivar. Characteristics: self-blanching, smooth, thick petioles, brittle, high quality. Cornell University Agric. Expt. Sta. Annual Report 1941:145, 1942.

Cornell 19 - Breeder: Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Parentage: Golden Self Blanching x Utah. Characteristics: smooth, self-blanching, petioles in a little taller and not quite as thick as Cornell 6, brittle and of high quality. Resistance: fusarium Yellows. Similar: Cornell 6 cultivar. Cornell 6.19 - Breeder: Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Parentage: Cornell 6 x Cornell 19. Characteristics: petiole thickness of Cornell 6, length of Cornell 19; less brittle and slightly better heart than either parent. Resistance: fusarium yellows. Similar: Cornell 19. Adaptation: northeastern United States. 1953.

Deacon (CRY 001) - Breeder and vendor: Moran Seeds. Characteristics: open pollinated, taller than 52-70 types, compact hearts, and thick, smooth, round ribs; petioles are very dark green all the way to the base. Resistance: tolerance to fusarium yellows. Similar: Tall Utah 52-70. Adaptation: California coastal valleys. 1982.

Delmar (XP 304) - Breeder: H. Reif. Vendor: Asgrow Seed Company, New Haven, Connecticut. Characteristics: about 1 week earlier than Utah 52-70. Resistance: high to pithiness, tolerance to bolting. Similar: Utah 52-70. Adaptation: California coastal area. 1961.

Emerson Pascal - Breeder: Cornell University and Everglades and Central Florida Expt. Sta., Ithaca, New York, and Belle Glade, and Sanford, Florida, respectively. Parentage: Danish (White Plume) x Golden Self Blanching x Cornell 19 x Cornell 6. Characteristics: green type, deeply cut leaves, smooth, thick petioles, brittle and high in quality; poor heart development. Resistance: moderate to cercospora and septoria blights. Fiesta (Exp130) - Breeder and vendor: Pybas Vegetable Seed Co. Parentage: Summit. Characteristics: long, dark green, moderately smooth petioles; moderate level of bolting tolerance; heavy yielding in Fusarium-free soils. Adaptation: California coastal valleys. 1999.

Floribelle M9 - Breeder: E. Wolf. Vendor: University of Florida. Characteristics: intermediate growth habit between Crystal Jumbo and Utah types, midseason cultivar, 92-99 day maturity after transplant; petioles and leaves moderate glossy and green, susceptible to blackheart. Resistance: early and bacterial blight. 1991.

Florida 683 (EES 683) - Breeder: Florida Everglades Expt. Sta., Belle Glade. Parentage: selection from Utah 52.70. Characteristics: cylindrical compact plants with excellent heart formation, highly productive. Resistance: node crack and boron deficiencies. Similar: Utah 52-70, but darker green. Adaptation: fall and winter crops in the Florida Everglades. Florida Circ. S156. 1964.

Florida Slobolt M68 - Breeder: E. Wolf. Vendor: University of Florida. Characteristics: medium green Utah type. Resistance: bolting in Everglades. Adaptation: Florida production in April, early May. 1993.

Florigreen (XP 74) - Breeder and vendor: Asgrow Seed Co. Characteristics: open pollinated, attractive uniform, vigorous green-stalked cultivar developed to provide a distinct petiole type for fancy grade pack. Resistance: tolerance to brown spot, western celery mosaic, brown check. Similar: Florida 683. Adaptation: wide. 1976.

Florimart (391-19C) - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Mountain View, California. Characteristics: tall, cylindrical plant, relatively slow bolting. Resistance: cercospora. Similar: Summer Pascal. Adaptation: Florida. Ferry-Morse Seed Company, 19 August 1963.

FM Green E5A (E5A) - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Mountain View, California. Characteristics: tall, compact plant, stems medium thick and medium wide; stem color medium green. Similar: Tall Utah 52-70. Adaptation: general. Ferry-Morse Seed Company, 15 April 1963.

FM-D5 (D5) - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Mountain View, California. Characteristics: stems are medium wide, very thick, deeply cupped, smooth and waxy, dark green; petioles long; plant habit slightly open. Resistance: brown check, magnesium yellows. Fuerte (PYC66) - Breeder and vendor: Pybas Vegetable Seed Co. Parentage: UC-1. Characteristics: a shorter, dark-green fresh market type, with unusually uniform petioles in length, compact and medium smoothness; moderately slow resistance. Resistance: excellent to fusarium yellows. Adaptation: Michigan, Wisconsin, Midwestern U.S. 1999.

Glademaster (X 136) - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Co. Characteristics: compact, slightly darker green than 52-70; very uniform. Resistance: feather leaves. Adaptation: Florida. 1968.

Golden Plume 4162 - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Mountain View, California. Parentage: selection from Golden Plume. Characteristics: hardy for a Golden type but possibly too dwarf. Similar: Golden Plume. Adaptation: eastern United States. 1938.

Golden Spartan (68-51) - Breeder: Michigan Agric. Expt. Sta., East Lansing. Vendor: Keystone Seed Co. Parentage: Early Fortune x Emerson Pascal. Characteristics: nonbolting, yellow, round and thick petioles with few fibers. Resistance: bolting. Similar: Cornell 19. Michigan Agric. Expt. Sta. Research Report. 1973.

Grande (60-13-68A) - Breeder and vendor: Keystone Seed Co. Parentage: selection out of Tall Utah 50-70 R. Characteristics: open pollinated. Resistance: fusarium oxysporum appii, boron deficiency. Similar: Tall Utah 52-70 R strain. Adaptation: California coast. 1981.

Green Bay (XP-166) - Breeder and vendor: Pybas Vegetable Seed Co. Parentage: UC1. Characteristics: tall, dark green plant, suitable for mid season processing and for early and late fresh market; compact bunch, upright, petioles moderately smooth. Resistance: fusarium yellows race 2, suckering; moderate for bolting. Adaptation: Michigan, Wisconsin, midwestern U.S. 1997.

Green Giant - Vendor: American Takii. Characteristics: hybrid, early harvest, medium tall, upright, medium green color, petioles of moderate length and width.

Green Light - Breeder and vendor: Joseph Harris Company, Rochester, New York. Characteristics: numerous, long petioles and blocky at base of stalk. Similar: 52-70. Adaptation: northern United States. Harris catalog, 1956.

Green Light Tall Strain - Breeder and vendor: Joseph Harris and Co. Parentage: selection from Green Light. Characteristics: tall erect with many medium sized petioles, bolts easily under early spring or cool planting. Similar: Green Light. Adaptation: northeast and east coast of the United States. Hercules (FM 1218) - Breeder: L. Gautney. Vendor: Ferry-Morse. Characteristics: good uniformity and petiole length, earlier than Tall Utah 52-75 and has a darker green, longer and wider petioles. Similar: Deacon. 1989.

Holiday - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Mountain View, California. Parentage: Summer Pascal x Red. Characteristics: stems good quality, tinted pink to red, stronger flavor. Adaptation: wide. Ferry-Morse Seed Company list. 1961.

Matador - Vendor: Pybas Vegetable Seed. Characteristics: Tall Utah type, smooth petioles, moderate bolting, medium green color, good replacement for T.U. 52-70R. Resistance: fusarium yellows race 2. 1990.

Michigan State Green Gold - Breeder: Michigan State College, East Lansing. Vendor: Grand Rapids Growers. Parentage: Michigan Golden x Fordhook. Characteristics: light green, erect, taller and less brittle than Pascal types, quick blanching, tall, erect habit favors blight escaping. Resistance: fusarium yellows. Michigan Quart. Bul. Pacifica (PSP 003) - Breeder: B. Briggs. Vendor: Pacific. Characteristics: processor type, very dark green petiole, very good flavor very few secondary petioles, 18" stalks, good for dehydrating. Similar: Camlynn celery. 1990.

Pascal 259-19 - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Detroit. Parentage: single plant selection from Summer Pascal. Characteristics: ribs 9-10" long, smooth, rounded; good rib count; dark green, taller plants than Summer Pascal, larger sizes. Similar: Summer Pascal. Adaptation: wide. Ferry-Morse Seed Company Des. Pascal 284 - Breeder: Colorado Agric. Expt. Sta., Fort Collins, Colo. Parentage: Weirlich Short Pascal x Apels tall strain. Characteristics: slow bolting; out of season planting; good stem length; fine color; prominently ribbed. Resistance: bolting. Adaptation: general, extensively used in California. 1952.

Slow Bolting Green 96 - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Mountain View, California. Characteristics: medium width, deeply cupped, medium green stems; petioles long, but plant not compact; withstands conditions that cause other cultivars to bolt. Resistance: brown check. Summer Pascal - Breeder: University of Massachusetts, Waltham Field Station, Waltham. Vendor: Boston Market Gardeners Association. Parentage: selected from material obtained from Gross Brothers in Carlisle, Philadelphia. Characteristics: easy bleach, full heart, smooth petioles, high yields. Adaptation: eastern United States.

Summit (E0223) - Breeder: Tambo. Vendor: Ferry-Morse. Characteristics: early, 85 day maturity after transplanting, long petioles 11-13", medium green color, very uniform tops, plants compact. Resistance: tolerance to fusarium yellows in infested fields. Similar: Tall Utah 52-70R TMP. 1982.

Parentage: cross of Houser Giant Pascal and Gross Pascal, made by Israel Gross of Camp Hill, Philadelphia. Characteristics: early maturity, smooth meaty petiole, good heart. Tendercrisp (X 236H) - Breeder and vendor: Ferry-Morse Seed Co. Characteristics: very large, excellent petiole length, darker green, smoother and more sheen than Tall Utah 52-70. Characteristics: Tall Utah type; medium green color with slightly wider petioles; uniform height; tight shingling of inner stalks and cover; planted in spring and summer in Santa Maria and Salinas Valley, California; winter transplants in Ventura County, California.
