This list of the North American vegetable
cultivars is a compilation of the previous vegetable cultivar
lists that were published in the Proceedings of the American
Society for Horticultural Science and in HortScience. The
original lists published in the journals were developed
using the database of cultivars registered with the American
Seed Trade Association, as well as published descriptions
from scientific journals and seed catalogs. Assistant editors
responsible for each crop were instructed to obtain as much
information as possible about the cultivars available to
North American growers. The crop species are listed alphabetically,
and cultivars are listed alphabetically within each of those.
Note: we do not have seeds to sell
or to sample out; this is a list of cultivar descriptions
that are or were sold by seed companies and public institutions.
Instructions for
sending new cultivar descriptions
This list is identical to the published
lists except that errors have been corrected, duplicate
cultivar names have been removed, and the descriptions have
been put into a standard format. The standard format includes
the cultivar name, experimental designation, breeder, vendor,
parentage, plant characteristics, disease and other resistances,
similar cultivars, areas of adaptation, plant variety protection
information, reference information, and year of release.
In many cases, complete information was not available for
the cultivars included in the list.
