Tree breeding involves work with large, long-lived species, and makes a lot of challenges for the plant breeder.

Making pollinations requires a lot of field space, and moving from one parent to another requires some time and effort.
One pine tree can have a lot of pollinations set on it. The pollinating crew has to be comfortable working some distance off the ground.
